Borgo Teresiano district runs from the apartment up to Piazza Unità, and was built by Maria Theresa during the great development of the city of Trieste in the nineteenth century. At Habsburgs' time Trieste represented the only outlet to the sea of the Empire and the Queen invested a lot of resources to make it one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean Sea. This is why the natives feel nostalgia and affection for Austria and the bond is still very strong!
You can reach Piazza Unità with a pleasant 15-minute walk by simply keeping the sea on your right. After passing the station area, you will enter this district characterized by elegant light-colored buildings, where most of the city's offices are located, up to institutional buildings and Teatro Verdi. It is almost mandatory to take a photo of the Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo, located at the end of the canal, with all the moored boats interspersed with very busy bridges.
For a truly Triestine moment of relaxation, walk towards Molo Audace until you reach the top of the pier, where a compass rose stands out. This is a magical place: voices are muffled, the presence of the sea is so strong, and you will have a breathtaking 360° view of the beauties of the city.
To fill the belly as well as the eyes, along the canal you can stop for a coffee at the brand new and chic Illy café, and taste some typical dishes at Al vecio canal (Piazza Ponterosso), or at the Buffet Da Pepi (Via Cassa di Risparmio).
A private parking spot is available in the basement. It is subject to availability and has to be booked in advance, at a cost of € 10.00/night.
If it is not available, you can park at Parking Saba Silos, located 350 meters far, next to the train station. Booking a spot online through their website Sabait.it, you can take advantage of very interesting discounts!
Otherwise with a little luck you can find a free parking space nearby. Pay attention to road signs and garage exits!
The nearby train station, in Piazza Libertà, is a nerve center for public transport lines: on this Trieste Trasporti map you can enter your destination and find the lines and timetables to move in an easy way like a real native!
