Neighbourhood

Opicina is the first village you come across when leaving Trieste behind and heading up towards the Carso. Many people from Trieste live in this area, preferring the fresh evening air, the tranquillity and the possibility of having all services within walking or cycling distance, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Just a short distance from the apartment  you can reach one of the most beautiful viewpoints over Trieste, the Obelisk area, which is extremely fascinating even on days of low fog, when the whole city is covered by a soft blanket from which only a few spires and the high floors of a few buildings emerge. From the Obelisk you can then walk along the Napoleonic Road, an easy 5 km dirt track to the Marian Temple of Monte Grisa, a building that catches the eye because of its peculiar shape. Along the way you will enjoy an exceptional view of the city, the gulf, the Victory Lighthouse and Miramare Castle. The vertical walls at the end of the trail are also popular with free-climbers!

Transport

One of Opicina's attractions is undoubtedly the famous Tram, a historic cable car that connects the village with the city centre. Unfortunately, the Tram has been at a standstill for many years due to maintenance costs and is being replaced by bus line 2/, which leaves from the same station. From Opicina you can visit the entire Karst and coastal area either by car or by bicycle: there are endless paths through the greenery that will take you to the incredible Karst caves, including the Grotta Gigante, and beautiful viewpoints. Alternatively, you can reach the centre of Trieste in ten minutes; thanks to the parking space under the house you can easily move everywhere!
