The Empress Suites building was completely renovated in 2021. The history of the palace actually dates back to several hundreds of years ago: in fact, the important Porta Cavana stood here, built in 1471 and demolished in 1778 to enlarge the square. Through this door you could reach Piazza del Sale (now Piazza Cavana), hub of the professional activities at the time: all around the square there are narrow streets with evocative names, such as Via del Pane, Via della Pescheria, Via dei Fornelli and Via delle Beccherie.
Piazza Cavana has recently been elegantly redeveloped and it's still a meeting and exchange place. You will frequently find street performers, antiques markets, small concerts and small popular events. In the square there are also a bank and a supermarket, as well as numerous small restaurants and trattorias, both for a quick lunch and for more relaxed meals.
Before setting off towards Piazza Unità and then proceeding towards San Giusto hill, we recommend a delightful stop at Adoro Caffè, in Piazza Cavana. Here you can take a classic "capo in bi", a fresh infusion or a hot chocolate and enjoy the first sun. For an aperitif we recommend a stop at Life or Al Ciketo, very trendy and popular with young people. For lunch or dinner you are spoiled for choice: within walking distance you can find the best high-level restaurants, such as Ristorante Ego, Al Bagatto, Antica Ghiacceretta.
A little indigenous trick: San Giusto Castle is located at the top of the rather steep hill of the same name, but you can take a free lift located inside Parking San Giusto, near the Roman Theater. The medieval part of the city is very suggestive, but it is better to go downhill rather than uphill :D
The entrance to the Empress Suites is located at the edge of Cavana pedestrian area. To facilitate your arrival, we recommend to park at Parking San Giusto, located 400 meters near the Roman Theater; otherwise you can look for a parking spot in the blue parking lots on fee (free from 8pm to 8am and on holidays) nearby.
From the station you can reach the Suites with lines 8, 17, 24 and 30; line 24, which stops right in front of the entrance, takes you to San Giusto Castle and back. Check the timetables here: Trieste Trasporti.
200 meters far from the entrance, towards the banks and in front of Stazione Marittima, you'll find one of the shelters for city bikes on rent. Here you can find all the information to use them!
